Romish Cardinal has to cancel trip to join Pope in Ireland because of child abuse report

The Pope's top adviser on clergy sexual abuse has had to cancel his planned trip to Ireland because he has to investigate sexual misconduct in his own Seminary in North America.

Cardinal Sean O’Malley has backed out of a key speaking engagement in Dublin at the World Meeting of Families so that he might devote his time and attention to the unfolding scandal at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton.

The World Meeting of Families Conference is taking place in Dublin 21st - 26th August. The Pope is to attend the closing stages of the Conference. 

Cardinal O’Malley is chairman of Pope Francis’ Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Children. He was expected to chair a panel discussion at the World Meeting of Families Conference titled 'Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults.' The panel includes Dublin abuse survivor Marie Collins, who resigned from the Commission for the Protection of Minors last year in protest at the frustration of its work by Vatican officials.

Rev McIlveen says the Pope is not welcome in Northern Ireland

Rev David McIlveen, retired Free Presbyterian minister, has spoken out against any proposed papal visit to Northern Ireland. Rev McIlveen said that Pope Francis is “not welcome” in Northern Ireland until he condemns clerical child abuse in the Province. 

Rev McIlveen felt a visit by the Pope to Northern Ireland would not be appropriate in light of the recent revelations regarding paedophile priest Malachy Finnegan, who was accused of abusing 12 boys at St Colman’s College in Newry.

Rev McIlveen told BBC’s The Nolan Show this morning: “It is important at this particular juncture in the Roman Catholic Church, with so much clerical abuse, that the church gets its own house in order.

"Why did no one save little Elsie?" Pandering to Sodomy is why!

This question is posed by the Daily Mail in the light of the conviction of Matthew Scully-Hicks for the murder of his adopted daughter. The headline in the Daily Mail reads:

Why did no one save little Elsie? Social services visited gay father who murdered his adopted daughter FIFTEEN times but failed to intervene - even after she had broken her leg and 'fallen down the stairs'

Social services visited a gay father who murdered his adopted 18-month-old daughter 15 times but still raised no concerns - despite finding out she had broken her leg and had 'fallen down the stairs'.

• Matthew Scully-Hicks, 31, shook Elsie Scully-Hicks and threw her down on floor
• He denied murdering her but was found guilty by a jury after a four week trial
• Murder came just two weeks after he adopted her with his husband Craig, 36
• Social services face an investigation to see if they missed chances to save her
• Staff members visited the couple fifteen times and still raised no concerns
• Before her death she had previously suffered a broken leg and mystery bruises
• Prosecutors have said medical evidence was crucial in Scully-Hicks' conviction 

The is one simple answer. No one stepped in to save this little girl because of the pandering to sodomy that goes on in this nation. To have stepped in would have brought down a torrent of disapproval and the usual charges of being homophobic when anyone is perceived to have acted against those who chose to follow this way of life. This is why there were 15 visits by social workers and a failure to step in. They evidently knew there was a problem but were unwilling to step in and remove the child. 

New lows in the abortion debate!

The boundaries of abortion are being pushed all the time in this secular society.

A number of recent reports highlight that the pro-choice lobby [a misnomer for the murder of the unborn] are never content with the situation as it stands but are always wanting to extend the reach of abortion.

Report 1 - Gender Abortion
The Department of Health has launched an inquiry into claims that doctors were filmed agreeing to carry out illegal abortions on the grounds of the sex of unborn children.

This came to light via a Daily Telegraph investigation which revealed that doctors at a number of British abortion clinics were granting abortions with 'no questions asked'.

The Westminster Coalition Health Secretary Andrew Lansley was said to be "shocked" by the claims and has ordered an "urgently and thorough" inquiry.

Report 2 - After birth-abortion
Even more disturbingly, Francesca Minerva, a philosopher and medical ethicist, has argued in an article published in the Journal of Medical Ethics and entitled: After-birth abortion: why should the baby live? that killing a newborn child is little different to aborting it in the womb and that doctors should have the right to kill unwanted or disabled babies at birth as they are not a real person.

Dr Minerva went as far as to suggest that even a healthy baby could have its life terminated if a mother decided she couldn't afford to look after it.

No Pope Here!

Reasons for opposing the papal visit to Scotland & England of Pope Benedict XVI:

2. Moral - There is a stain and a stench in recent years on the character of Romanism over child abuse and it reaches right up the chain of authority to the Vatican.

Rome is a hierarchal system. The local priest is under the bishop, who is under the archbishop, who in turn is under the Pope. It is the Pope who appoints bishops. It is the Pope who sacks a bishop and no one else. 

The present Pope has shown a complete unwillingness to deal with these issues. That is not the view of biased Protestants. That is view even of Roman Catholics. Many are ashamed of what has been taking place in their institutions for many years. 

There was a recent example of the present Pope’s unwillingness to deal with these matters. This unwillingness was widely reported. One such report is found in the Catholic Herald on 12th August this year: 

Pope Benedict XVI has decided not to accept the resignation of two Dublin auxiliary bishops who resigned in the wake of the Murphy Report investigation into clerical child abuse in the archdiocese [of Dublin. The Ryan report was into religious orders] 

Auxiliary Bishops Raymond Field and Eamonn Walsh resigned on December 24 after coming under intense pressure because they served as bishops during the period investigated by the Murphy Commission. In a letter to priests of the Dublin archdiocese, Archbishop Diarmuid Martin confirmed the development. 

Following the presentation of their resignations to Pope Benedict, it has been decided that Bishop Eamonn Walsh and Bishop Raymond Field will remain as auxiliary bishops,” he said. Archbishop Martin said the two men are “to be assigned revised responsibilities within the diocese.” Both bishops initially resisted calls for their resignation. However, both sent resignation letters to Rome after Archbishop Martin apparently failed to give them his total support. 

Even the Archbishop of Dublin couldn’t fully support these two bishops when the Murphy report came out, yet the Pope refused their resignations. 

There are allegations coming out of Munich were Joseph Ratzinger was Archbishop from 1977 of personal involvement in covering up abuse. 

In 1981, Ratzinger settled in Rome where he became the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, one of the most important offices within the Vatican. 

Prior to 2001, the primary responsibility for investigating allegations of sexual abuse and disciplining perpetrators rested with the individual dioceses. In 2001, Ratzinger convinced Pope John Paul II to put the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in charge of all investigations and policies surrounding sexual abuse in order to combat such abuse more efficiently. 

In other words Ratzinger ‘was in the know’ about what was going on in recent years. It is said that he was a notorious micro-manger. He wanted to know everything that was going on in the Catholic Church worldwide. Is it logical to conclude he was unaware of these things? I think not!

What did he know? & When did he know it?

It is rather amazing that amid all the outpouring of sympathy for Cahal Daly who died last week no one is asking a serious of very obvious questions:

1. What did this man know about the child abuse scandals within the Roman Catholic Church?

2. When did he know of the level of abuse that has subsequently been uncovered?

After all he was the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Armagh and thus Primate of All Ireland from 1990 to 1996. The Ryan Inquiry into child abuse at Roman Catholic institutions in Ireland found that church leaders knew that sexual abuse was 'endemic' in boys' institutions and had taken out insurance to cover the cost of paying of those who made allegations.

The Dublin Archdiocese Commission of Investigation's 720-page report published in Nov 2009 said that it had 'no doubt that clerical child sexual abuse was covered up' from January 1975 to May 2004, the time covered by the report.

Th report also stated:
The Dublin Archdiocese's pre-occupations in dealing with cases of child sexual abuse, at least until the mid 1990s, were the maintenance of secrecy, the avoidance of scandal, the protection of the reputation of the Church, and the preservation of its assets.

The welfare of children, which should have been the first priority, was not even a factor to be considered in the early stages.

Instead the focus was on the avoidance of scandal and the preservation of the good name, status and assets of the institution and of what the institution regarded as its most important members -- the priests.

It is inconceivable that this was not known at the highest level. The scale of the abuse subsequently uncovered indicates how big an issue it was.

No one seems to have been willing to ask these questions before or after the cardinal died. Why not???

Anyone notice the gross hyprocrisy of Sinn Fein and the issue of child abuse!

On 28th November 2009 Sinn Féin vice-president Mary Lou McDonald said anyone found to have covered up the abuse of children in the Dublin Archdiocese should be arrested and made to face the full rigours of the law. Sinn Fein's own website carried a statement, part of which reads:

The report on clerical sexual abuse of children in Dublin exposes how the most powerful men in the Catholic Church in the Dublin Diocese conspired to protect abusers of children. It was a gross betrayal of generations of children.

It is especially damning that the State authorities facilitated the cover-up and allowed the Church to be beyond the reach of the law. Senior Gardai, up to and including the level of Commissioner, repeatedly turned a blind eye to crimes of clerical sexual abuse.

Anyone, including Gardaí, found to be complicit in the cover up of child abuse must be arrested and made to face the full rigours of the law.

Little did she and the rest in Sinn Fein realise what was about to come to light concerning Gerry Adams covering up for over two decades the abuse of his own niece by his brother.

Will Mary Lou McDonald now call upon Gerry Adams to be 'arrested and made to face the full rigours of the law'? I doubt it!

This is just another example of the rottenness that lies at the heart of IRA/Sinn Fein. And to think that this party is in government over us! Truly the land mourns when the wicked bear rule, Proverbs 29:2 … when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
